The final confirmation came when the doctor lowered the chart slightly, his expression shifting from clinical detachment to concern.

“The other phrase she repeated,” he said carefully, “was… ‘tell him what you made me do.’”

The words hit the room like a physical impact.

Daniel’s breath stopped.

Vanessa stepped back again, shaking her head violently. “That’s not true,” she whispered. “She’s confused—she has to be confused.”

But Daniel wasn’t looking at Mara anymore.

Security footage was later requested from the hospital entrance. It showed Mara arriving alone, collapsing near the curb, and calling one final time before losing consciousness.

A second voice had been recorded earlier that morning near the Eastbridge Financial building—Vanessa’s.

By the time the investigation concluded, the truth was no longer a mystery. Mara Ellis had been a former employee in a private financial operation tied to one of Daniel’s own business partners. Daniel ended the engagement within forty-eight hours.
