He Walked Into the Hospital Expecting a Routine Visit—Then His Fiancée Turned Pale at the Sight of a Woman Fighting for Her Life

PART 3 — The Secret Mara Refused to Let Die

The doctor finally spoke.

“Daniel Mercer.”

The room went silent.

For a moment, Daniel thought he had misheard. But then he saw it—Vanessa’s expression collapsing completely, like the ground beneath her had given way.

Daniel turned slowly toward her.

“You told them my name?”

“I didn’t—” she started, but the words broke apart before they could form.

The monitors beside the bed beeped steadily, indifferent to the tension unraveling in the room. Nurses paused their work, sensing something they were not part of but could no longer ignore.

Mara Ellis lay unconscious, but somehow still at the center of everything.

The doctor continued reading from the chart.

“She was brought in after collapsing outside the Eastbridge Financial building. Witnesses say she was trying to speak before losing consciousness. Repeating your name, Mr. Mercer, and another phrase we haven’t fully confirmed yet.”

Daniel felt a cold weight settle in his chest.

He looked at Vanessa again.

This time, she couldn’t meet his eyes.

Because whatever Mara had been trying to say… it wasn’t random.

It was connected.

And Vanessa knew exactly how.
