My Wife Tried to Publicly Humiliate Me Over a Secret Purchase, So I Played Her Baby’s Real Father’s Ultrasound on Her Gender Reveal Screen
Part 3: The Grand Illusion
The backyard of our suburban home had been transformed into an influencer’s paradise. Elena had spent the last two weeks spending thousands of dollars from our joint account on professional event decorators, a massive catering spread, and a custom-built, eight-foot-tall LED projection screen positioned right next to the pool.
Over eighty guests filled the lawn. My parents were there, beaming with pride, talking to Elena’s parents who had flown in for the occasion. My aunts, uncles, and childhood friends mingled by the open bar. And standing right by the patio, looking sharp in a linen blazer, was my cousin Julian. He was laughing, chatting up my father, acting like the golden boy of the Vance family.
“David, my man!” Julian called out as I walked past, stepping forward to clap a heavy hand onto my shoulder. The physical touch made my skin crawl, but I didn’t let a single muscle in my face betray me. “Incredible party, man. You must be ecstatic. A little mini-David running around soon.”
“I’m focused on the future, Julian,” I said, looking him directly in the eyes. “Making sure everyone gets exactly what they deserve.”
Julian’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second, a flicker of nervous confusion crossing his eyes before his slick, salesman persona locked back into place. “Absolutely, man. Cheers to that.”
Elena approached me a moment later, looking radiant in a flowing white dress that made her look like an innocent angel. She wrapped her arm tightly through mine, leaning her head against my shoulder for the benefit of her photographer friend who was circling the yard with a high-end DSLR camera.
“Everything is perfect, David,” she whispered, her eyes locked on the massive LED screen. “When the clock strikes five, the screen is going to play the surprise video montage I made. It’s going to end with a digital explosion of either pink or blue confetti. The caterer already has the file loaded into the master system.”
“Actually, honey,” I said, tapping her chin gently with my finger, “I had my tech guy take over the master control booth about an hour ago. I wanted to make sure the audio and video quality were completely flawless for our guests. I added a little surprise intro to your video. Something to really highlight our journey over the last few months.”
Elena smiled, her eyes lighting up with genuine delight and a heavy dose of condescension. “Oh, David, that is so sweet of you. I didn’t think you had a romantic bone left in your body.”
“You’d be surprised what I’m capable of when I’m properly motivated,” I said softly.
At exactly 4:55 PM, Elena clinked her champagne glass against a fork, her voice amplified by the professional sound system echoing across the crowded backyard.
“Everyone, if I could have your attention please!” she called out, her face glowing with triumphant joy. The crowd shifted, moving toward the edge of the pool, forming a massive semi-circle facing the giant LED screen. My parents stood right at the front, holding hands, their faces filled with pure anticipation. Julian positioned himself just a few feet behind them, a smug, confident look on his face as he watched his mistress command the crowd.
“Thank you all so much for being here,” Elena continued, her eyes glistening with those practiced, beautiful tears. “As many of you know, David and I have had a difficult year. Marriage isn’t always easy, and there were times when we felt disconnected. But miracles happen. This pregnancy has brought us back together, and today, we want to share the official first glimpse of our beautiful future with the people we love most. Tech booth, please roll the video!”
The crowd cheered and clapped. The backyard lights dimmed slightly as the massive LED screen flickered to life.
The video began with soft, romantic piano music playing through the high-end speakers. A beautiful, high-resolution graphic appeared on screen: The Vance Family Journey: Truth, Loyalty, and New Beginnings.
Elena let out a soft, happy sigh, tightening her grip on my arm.
But the piano music didn’t continue. Suddenly, the audio cut out, replaced by a sharp, digital tone. The screen flashed black for a split second, and then a massive, high-definition PDF document appeared, blown up so large that even the guests standing at the back fence could read every single word.
The header read: Advanced Urology Associates of Chicago. Patient Name: David Michael Vance. Procedure: Bilateral Vasectomy. Status: Permanently Sterile. Zero Sperm Count Verified.
A confused murmur rippled through the crowd. My mother’s brow furrowed, her eyes darting between the screen and me. Elena froze instantly, her entire body stiffening against mine like a block of concrete.
“What is this? David, what did your tech guy do?” Elena whispered, her voice suddenly thin, sharp, and laced with a terrifying spike of panic.
Before I could answer, my voice boomed through the master sound system. I had recorded a voiceover the night before, calm, steady, and entirely devoid of anger.
“Hello everyone,” my recorded voice echoed across the lawn. “As my wife Elena just said, marriage is about truth and new beginnings. And the absolute truth is that I had a successful vasectomy three and a half years ago. I am medically incapable of fathering a child. So, like any good accountant, when the math didn’t add up, I ran a comprehensive audit.”
The screen flashed again. The medical report disappeared, replaced by a massive, crystal-clear surveillance photograph of Elena and my cousin Julian standing in the doorway of the luxury downtown condominium, their arms wrapped around each other, locked in a passionate, unmistakable kiss.
The entire backyard went so silent you could hear the water rippling in the pool filter.
“Oh my god,” someone whispered in the back.
Elena’s face completely drained of color, turning a sickening shade of grey. She whipped her head around to look at the tech booth, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps. “Turn it off! Turn it off right now! This is a joke! David is insane, he’s projecting fake documents!”
But the video didn’t stop. The screen transitioned into a split-screen format. On the left side, a rolling scroll of printed text messages began to play, blown up to massive proportions.
Elena: Let him keep paying the mortgage on that beautiful house… we’ll let him fund the trust fund, and once the kid is two, I’ll file for divorce and take everything. Julian: God, you’re brilliant. Can’t wait to raise my kid on his dime.
On the right side of the screen, the final blow appeared: the official prenatal DNA paternity report from the independent lab, highlighting the 99.99% match between the fetus and Julian Vance.
The silence exploded into pure, unadulterated chaos.
My father turned around, his face turning a dangerous, bright red as his eyes locked onto Julian. Julian was already backing away toward the side gate, his hands raised in a desperate, defensive gesture, his face completely pale and sweating through his linen blazer.
“Julian!” my father roared, his voice shaking the patio glass. “Get over here right now!”
“Uncle Robert, please, it’s not what it looks like! The data is manipulated! David hacked her phone, he’s framing us!” Julian stammered, his smooth-talking salesman charm completely disintegrating into cowardly terror.
My two older brothers stepped out from the crowd, their expressions terrifyingly calm as they closed the distance, blocking Julian’s exit path to the gate and forcing him back toward the pool.
Elena dropped to her knees right there on the grass, her beautiful white dress crumpling around her as she let out a loud, desperate wail. “David, please! It was a mistake! I was lonely, you were always working! Please, don’t do this to our family! Think about my parents!”
I looked down at her, standing perfectly straight, my hands tucked loosely into my pockets. I didn’t look angry. I didn’t look vengeful. I looked like a man who had successfully closed a very long, very complicated book.
“I didn’t do this to our family, Elena,” I said, my voice carrying clearly over her frantic sobbing. “You and Julian wrote the script. I just provided the screen.”
