He Threw Her Out for “Cheating”… and One Year Later Found Her on the Road With Twins Who Looked Exactly Like Him

PART 1

Sebastian Hart believed he had already buried his past.

He had a new truck, a growing company in Dallas, and a fiancée who always smiled when cameras were nearby. Paige Arlington was elegant, from a well-known family, the kind of woman who seemed to have her entire life arranged before she was even born.

But that afternoon, on a dusty back road outside Waco, everything came crashing down on him.

“Stop the truck, Sebastian!” Paige shouted from the passenger seat.

He slammed on the brakes, thinking a dog had run across the road.

But it was not a dog.

Standing on the shoulder beneath the brutal Texas sun was Marissa.

His ex-wife.

The woman he had thrown out of his house one year earlier.

The woman he had accused of stealing money from the company, selling his mother’s jewelry, and sleeping with another man while he worked himself into the ground.

Marissa wore a faded blouse, torn sneakers, and carried a plastic bag full of crushed cans. Her face was thinner, her hands burned by the sun, but her eyes were still the same.

Sad.

Tired.

Dignified.

Sebastian felt his throat go dry.

Because Marissa was not alone.

Pressed against her chest, wrapped in worn little blankets, were two babies.

Twins.

And even from that short distance, Sebastian could see them clearly.

They had his dark hair.

His chin.

His eyes.

That same serious look his grandmother always said every Hart man had carried since childhood.

Paige let out a cold laugh.

“Oh, that poor woman. Look how she ended up.”

She pulled a five-hundred-dollar bill from her purse and tossed it out the window.

“Buy them something, Marissa. Even if it’s just cheap formula.”

The bill landed in the dust.

Marissa did not even bend down.

She only looked at Sebastian.

She did not ask for anything.

She did not cry.

She did not complain.

She looked at him the way someone looks at a person who could have saved them and chose to bury them instead.

Then she adjusted the babies against her chest and kept walking along the side of the road.

Sebastian could not move.

“What is wrong with you?” Paige asked, annoyed. “Let’s go. That woman was always good at playing the victim.”

He drove away, but something inside his chest never settled back into place.

That night, he did not sleep.

He lay beside Paige, but his mind stayed on that road.

The babies.

Marissa’s face.

The money lying in the dust.

For months, Sebastian had repeated to himself that he had done the right thing. That Marissa had betrayed him. That the photos at the hotel had been proof enough. That the missing money from his accounts could not lie. That his mother’s diamond necklace found in Marissa’s drawer had said everything.

But now, remembering those children, something did not add up.

If Marissa had been pregnant when he threw her out, why had she never told him?

The next morning, without telling Paige, he called Daniel Rhodes, a private investigator he trusted.

“I need you to find out everything about Marissa Caldwell,” he ordered. “Where she lives, what she did this past year, whether she had children… everything.”

Daniel did not ask questions.

Three days later, Sebastian received the call.

“Sebastian,” Daniel said in a low voice, “you should sit down for this.”

His heart slammed hard.

“Talk.”

“Marissa was admitted eleven months ago to Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. High-risk pregnancy. Twins.”

Sebastian felt the room shift.

“Eleven months?”

“Yes. And she listed you as her emergency contact. Your personal cell, your office line, even the number at your house.”

“I never received anything.”

“I know. Because someone paid to erase the notifications from the system and redirect the calls.”

Sebastian gripped the phone.

“Who?”

Daniel went silent for a few seconds.

“I just sent you the documents.”

Sebastian opened the email with trembling hands.

At the bottom of the payment authorization was a signature.

Paige Arlington.

And beneath it, a note that read:

“Remove all notifications related to Marissa Caldwell’s pregnancy.”

Sebastian stared at the screen as if he had just seen a dead man rise.

But the worst was still to come.
